The Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion program was just expanded from downtown, Old Town, and the Lloyd District to the Central Eastside. This pilot program allows police to divert someone facing low-level drug offenses to case managers and away from jail or prosecution. A coordinated effort between law enforcement agencies, service providers, community organizations and elected leaders, it is more cost-effective than traditional criminal justice responses to addiction and could make a major impact on drug use and recidivism.
