Dear Central Eastside community,
Due to staffing shortages with our safety contractor, we have been notified that Central Eastside Together’s Safety for All Program hours will be reduced until June 30, 2023. Safety for All Program hours starting today are 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 a.m. If you need emergency support outside those hours, please call 911.
Safety services are important and necessary to all those who live, work, play, and visit our District, and we are proud of the 24/7 safety coverage we have provided the District since June 2022. The safety of our district is critically important as we recover from years of civil and economic disruption. Our safety teams have become experts at de-escalation. They have spent countless hours conversing with retailers, visitors, and residents, helping them through duress and providing valuable tools and additional resources. We are incredibly grateful for their service and are moving swiftly to reinstate capacity and coverage 24/7 by July 1, 2023.
That said, we are looking at changing our current safety program to match Central Eastside’s needs. We invite you to inform our decision-making process in the following ways –
1. Please take the safety survey by April 21 and share it with other CEID businesses and employees. We’re working hard to reach as many people as possible and appreciate any added efforts to distribute this survey.
2. RSVP to attend our Safety Forum held at OMSI on April 20, 2023, from 5 to 7 p.m. This event will primarily be a listening session with the community and a panel including city leadership, Portland Police Bureau, and Central Eastside Together. We will discuss the most pressing safety concerns to inform the next iteration of our CET’s safety program.
Thank you for your participation and input. We can only build a strong district with you.
Executive Director, CEIC/CET
