Record Rain Means Possible Bridge Delays This Week

According to the Portland Bureau of Transportation & Multnomah County, this month’s record rain is having some impacts on the Central Eastside’s transportation infrastructure.

The floating portions of the Eastbank Esplanade closed Sunday due to high waters on Sunday, and may continue to

This week expect traffic delays for more frequent bridge lifts on the Willamette River due to high river levels.

After an extremely wet June, over the weekend the Willamette River rose 2.22 feet.

Multnomah County maintains six Willamette River bridges (Broadway, Burnside, Hawthorne, Morrison, Sauvie Island and Sellwood). Currently, the Broadway, Burnside, Hawthorne and Morrison are staffed 24-7 due to high river levels on the Willamette. Many ships will need bridge lifts due to the high water. Those bridges will remain staffed 24/7 at least through Sunday.
