How long have you been in the district?
ADX has been in the CEID for six years.
In a few sentences, could you tell us about the genesis of your business and its uniqueness?
ADX has been in the CEID for six years. ADX evolved out of Art Department, another CEID located business founded by Kelley Roy. ADX was founded with the mission to democratize making and artisanal manufacturing by reducing the three biggest barriers of entry into the market: access to space, affordability of tooling and affordability of maker-related education. ADX is the largest makerspace in Portland and offers membership based access to an industrial woodshop, metal shop, screen printing shop, jewelry shop and digital design lab. We also offer classes for the public and members and run a full-time design and fabrication company.
What is happening in your business right now that you’re excited to share?
We are about to open up our new location! We recently leased and renovated the building right next door to our existing shop in order to expand our design and fabrication capabilities and establish our ADX Pro membership and flexible art/retail/gallery space. We are calling our new space the ANX and will be hosting a grand opening during Design Week on Friday, April 28th at 6pm. We’re really excited to have Commissioner Chloe Eudaly cut the ribbon and kick off our grand opening party!
What do you like most about being in the Central Eastside Industrial District?
The best part about being in the CEID for us is having easy access to all of the industrial services that our team and community needs. From hardware stores to paint stores, industrial printers to tool repair companies – we utilize so many services in the district! And of course, we love all of the incredible art galleries, restaurants, and breweries in walking distance!
