Central Eastside District Cleaning is here!
Through a partnership with the Portland Bureau of Transportation, The CEIC has contracted Central City Concern Clean to expand their Start program throughout the Central Eastside (the River to 12th Ave and I-84 to Powell). In addition to trash left behind from abandoned camps, crews can clean illegally dumped items, human waste, and needles, M-F 8am to 4:30pm.
A mentored six-month work experience, this program gives individuals who have been impacted by homelessness an opportunity to work and gain crucial experience and confidence to pursue employment opportunities.
CCC Clean Start crews do not move people from sites or participate in campground “sweeps.” Their mission is to help keep neighborhoods free of litter and debris, as well as to provide residents of encampments with resources to maintain a safe and hygienic environment.
The program will be increasing its service this Fall to include graffiti abatement! In July, they made over 2,319 interventions including removing 854 needles, cleaning 172 abandoned camp sites and throwing away 19,750 lbs of trash. To report trash near you, please contact: email@example.com
District Security Pilot Program
The Central Eastside Industrial Council has started a security pilot project to support the neighbors and service providers in the Central Eastside around St. Francis Church and City Team Ministries. In response to the area’s desire for a greater feeling of security, the CEIC has contracted a security team from Northwest Enforcement. They were chosen because of their approach to maintaining order while being compassionate, respectful, and helpful to our vulnerable houseless population. They will work in tandem with the Central City Concern Clean Start program to identify and address hot spots for trash and needles, as well as graffiti.
