If your business is in need of a full-time or part-time entry level worker, you should check out Urban Opportunities. Teaming up with Oregon Outreach, former Pasta Bangs restaurant owner Polly Bangs started Urban Opportunities.
This non-profit organization is a job-placement program that creates and effective connections for under-supported youth and local businesses. Urban Opportunities work with youth who have expressed a desire to work and willingness to complete the necessary criteria in order to be placed in businesses.
When you hire an Urban Opportunity candidate, you agree to train the youth for one to two months in a an entry-level position at which time Urban Opportunities will pay the youth’s stipends as an on-the-job trial and training period. After the training and trial period, the youth will be permanently employed at your business for up to six months.

Some CEID businesses are soon going to be looking for new locations. Not because the want to, but because the Milwaukie Light Rail project will displace them.
On June 26 the project Steering Committee unanimously recommended a Locally Preferred Alternative (LPA). The LPA defines the route the light rail would follow should the project move
forward. Steering Committee members include elected officials from Metro, the cities of Portland, Milwaukie and Oregon City, Clackamas County and appointed officials from TriMet and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
The Steering Committee recommended the line terminate in Oak Grove in north Clackamas County, that it follow the Tillamook Branch railroad alignment through the industrial area of north Milwaukie and that it cross the Willamette River in a way that connects Oregon Museum of Science and Industry to South Waterfront. Their recommendation was informed by technical findings, public comment and input from the Citizen Advisory Committee and the Willamette River Crossing Partnership.
Metro unanimously approved last week the locally preferred alternative for the Portland-Milwaukie light-rail project. The 7.4 mile light rail line would provide additional transportation options for fast-growing communities with high traffic congestion in north Clackamas County and Southeast Portland. Construction could begin in 2011 and you could board the new MAX line in 2015.
For more information on the project, the businesses it will impact, and some projected pictures of what the new light rail may look like, visit the project website
If you couldn’t make it to our June Quarterly meeting, you missed a whopper of information. However, working with Tyler at Grubb & Ellis, he did supply us with his presentation on what is going on in the real estate market of the CEIC.
If you’re interested in learning more about the values of property in the district, current lease rates around town and more, check out Tyler’s presentation here.ceic-presentation-web-site1

So you’re tired of the transients in front of your building. You’ve had it with graffiti. And if you have to deal with another property or car vandalism, you’re moving. Well here’s the Committee for you.
Meeting the third Thursday of each month at 7:30AM at the Eastbank Saloon and Restaurant (727 SE Grand), this Committee allows you to directly talk with the officers of the Southeast Precinct to find solutions to these problems – and more. You’ll also meet other CEIC property and business owners who are facing these obnoxious issues and discuss ideas and concepts to eliminate them.
