If you had the chance to be a part of the ‘Get-to-Know-Your-Neighbor-Tour’ held a few months ago at Dennis Uniform, you know the amazing work this CEID business does for America. In fact, the work they do here is so impressive, that Hollywood wanted to take a look.
On Saturday, July 5th, at 9:00 AM, the Travel Channel’s own ‘Made in America with John Ratzenberger’ will have a special show highlighting Dennis Uniform. Show your support for a fellow CEIC business – watch it and let us know what you think! To learn more about the show, visit here
The Central Eastside is becoming inundated with trespass campers. These people often travel in packs because there is strength and safety in numbers. Because of their numbers, simply asking them to leave is not effective, and with the police department having only limited man-power, businesses in the area often have little choices on what they can do. If trespass campers are causing your business problems, we may have a solution.
To voice your concerns, learn more about the problems trespass campers cause, or if you would like to hear about a solution the CEIC is looking into, send an email to terry@ceic.cc

Did you know that Metro cleans up more than 1,500 illegal dumpsites each year? Since 1993, Metro has been taking care of illegal dumpsites all over the Metro region. Items dumped range from household trash, to tires, to old furniture, to old boats to more dangerous substances like paint, motor oil and needles. All illegal dumps are an eyesore and many are a hazard to human health and the environment. The Regional Illegal Dumping (RID) Patrol has two trucks staffed by correctional officers and inmate cleanup crews to pick up garbage dumped on public lands. If there is evidence of the party responsible for the dump, police officers under contract with Metro will investigate and issue a citation for up to $500 plus the cost of clean up.
If you know of an illegal dump site that needs to be cleaned, contact Metro at 503-234-3000, ridpatrol@oregonmetro.gov or www.oregonmetro.gov/ridpatrol. In un-incorporated Washington County, please call 503-846-8609. If you would like more information about how the RID Patrol can work with your community organization to prevent dumping call Tiffany Gates at 503-797-1867.
Today marks the beginning of a new Day Labor site for Portland. The goal of this site, located at 240 NE Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd (and NE Everett), is to set up and operate an orderly process for the hiring of Day Labors.
The non-profit organization, VOZ, will be operating the site after the Portland City Council allocated $200,000 funding for two years. The site will be open from 6:00 AM to noon – possibly later in the summer months – and will help reduce the amount of laborers who gather daily at the intersections of SE 6th and Ankeny Street and on the overpass over the Banfield Freeway.
Resolutions Northwest created a Good Neighbor Agreement which was signed on June 11th by the Kerns Neighborhood Association, nearby businesses, the CEIC, Portland Police, and the Office of Neighborhood Involvement, along with VOZ.
Time will tell how effective VOZ will be to entice Day Laborers and prospective employers to use the site. With immigration issues, illegal worker issues and a host of other concerns voiced by nearby businesses, VOZ definitely has their work cut out for them. There are 64 Day Labor sites in cities across the United States.
