Film Industry has Major Impact on Oregon Economy

At the CEIC Quarterly Meeting held at OMSI on March 13th, experts from the Film Industry spoke on the benefits that their industry has on the CEID. Steve Oster, Exectuive Director of the Oregon Film and Video Office, said the film industry in Oregon currently has a total economic impact of more than $979 million a year. This includes the $193 million paid to the Oregon employees who work in the industry.

Youth Progress Association – Helping Teenagers Help Themselves

With spring upon us, most teenagers are looking forward to summer vacation. Summer means long lazy days of basking in the sun and staying out late with friends. The teenagers in Youth Progress Association, however, have a very different reality as summer approaches. These youth will be working, attending classes, participating in therapy, and holding themselves accountable for their behaviors. This is the daily life of most of the teens in Youth Progress Association, an independent living skills facility located in SE Portland.

Identity Theft – Will Your Business Name Be In the Next Headline?

A few weeks ago, headlines across the land screamed “100 Millionth Identity Exposed Since 2005 Choicepoint Breach Revelation.”

For a nation of 300 million people, that represents quite a significant and disturbing number. One third of us have been exposed to the potential of identity theft. It is a crime harder to detect than any other crime against persons or property—and more lucrative. Losses emanating from identity theft totaled $56.6 billion in 2005, 3.5 times greater than the losses of all property crimes (burglary, larceny, and motor vehicle theft) combined. It has become the crime of choice of organized crime – around the world. Moreover, it undermines our faith in our entire system and, for victims, often destroys self-confidence and a sense of efficacy as they lose control of their identities and lives.
