Innovative Wet Weather Program

The Bureau of Environmental Services received grant funding from the Environmental Protection Agency to demonstrate innovative stormwater projects throughout Portland. To date, over 25 projects have been funded demonstrating the use of ecoroofs, porous paving materials and a variety of vegetated approaches for stormwater management. President’s Message, 3rd Quarter 2006

Celebrating 100 years Franz (United Bakery) continues to fill my neighborhood with delightful smells. We almost lost Franz from our district. Imagine 100 years and then moving, nothing would be the same. The Central Eastside has changed in the past 100 years and it will probably continue to change for the next 100. How the district changes depends on numerous factors, you being one with planning and policy being the guiding force. The success or failure of the planning and policy will define the Central Eastside and Portland as a whole. It seems right now there is a drive to plant new residences within the Urban growth boundaries. But if the entire focus of planning and policy is strictly on new housing (to the detriment of business) the homes will eventually sit empty, the people will stop coming, there will be balance.
